BoxOfficeIndia.com Chutiyapa

There is a fake trade blog by the name BoxOfficeindia.com which is anonymously operated from US. The numbers that its posts are hilarious but its their commentary which are even worse. Check them below:

A new hilarious note from joker site is on Zoya Akhtar. They say znmd did not work when it was one of the highest grossers of 2011 and the best trending movie clearly showing that it was the most liked film of 2011 by paying public. Read the delusions below:

"There is absolutely nothing Indian in Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara and Dil Dhadakne Do be it culture or values despite being family films. Now the cast is weaker as its reported to be Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt. Zoya Akhtar who makes films on rich people is now making some sort of film on a poor rapper as probably thinks the below par results of earlier films were because they were on rich people so now will go poor which is laughable because the same problems in story telling and narrative will still probably be there if th European hat is on"

On Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander:

" it was even said the film has emotions but every film has emotions but the ones which live have characters that are relatable allowing the emotions to connect but there was no such thing in this film. "

Dil Chahta Hai:

"The fiasco with this film was not the box office but how a section of the industry followed the story telling style and narrative of this film despite rejection so instead of the tradition rooted desi Hindi film, this western style urban (so called cool) film which was not relatable to most was being attempted by many"

On Hrithik Roshan

"In 2006 he was about to be undisputed superstar and leave the Khan's behind after Krrish and Dhoom 2 but doing poor films like Jodhaa Akbar and Zindagi Na Milegi Dobaraa cost him badly"

On Shahid Kapoor

" Shahid Kapoor has pretty much eroded whatever following he had with the youth with bad films like Haider and Udta Punjab."

On Special 26 & Baby:

"Special 26 and Baby which did not do well despite the presence of Akshay Kumar and looked rip offs of some European or far east thrillers."

Why Hrithik Roshan needs Rentrak to fight BoxOfficeindia.com

The Box Office tracking in India has no system as there is no single independent and authentic tracking system for Box office figures. There are a lot of fake blogs that have cropped up since the last few years but the oldest among them is BoxOfficeIndia.com. A site which was launched in 2003 but is completely anonymous about its owners/contacts/office address. More details about this site can be found here : BOI - anonymous Blog

There are other established trade sites with actual trade analysts like Bollywoodhungama.com, Koimoi.com etc but these sites publish numbers a day later and are generally closer to Official numbers of Producers. BOI updates these numbers generally on the very same day and is quite often, not in the range of official numbers. but since its posts its estimates first, social media uses its numbers. But we have found a consistent pattern or should we say an Open agenda of this blog against Hrithik Roshan. The cracks were found during 2012 itself when it had declared Agneepath as a "rejected movie" on its very second day. The same film went on to 120cr+ and was a bonafide superhit. Then came 2013 and the biggest scam of this blog BOI.

Its incredible but this Blog reduced the krrish 3 numbers by  a staggering 60 crores compared to the Official numbers at 245 cr . The commentary was generally negative. Then came 2014 and they reduced 40 cr from Bang Bang, another big hrithik film whose official figures are 181 crores but this blog reported 140 crores for it. Then came Kaabil in 2017 and yet again, they have near 40 cr reduction from Official figure of 137 crores.

A case in favour of this blog can be made that Roshans probably inflated the figures of their filmkraft films. But what about Bang Bang? It was a Foxstar production. This clearly shows an obvious dirty agenda of this  blog against Hrithik Roshan. Three of his bonafide Box office successes ( Krrish 3, Bang Bang and Kaabil) have been heavily underreported by this blog and has resulted in these movies suffering a reputational risk as the captioned blog has a sizeable fan following in online world.

Hrithik Roshan cannot manage to keep ignoring this blog for long. As it has certainly caused reputational damage to him and his filmkraft production. They accuse him and his production house of forging Box office numbers and its a serious charge. The blog itself has no credentials to do so as it is completely anonymous and operates from US. It has no presence in India. But then since it is the oldest trade blog, it has managed to influence its readers and has misguided them successfully. It is therefore imperative on the Roshans to let a strong well reputed firm track the Box Office figures for all their forthcoming films. Rentrak is probably what Hrithik needs the most at this point of time.

You Asked FOR It

Q. What is the budget of Kaabil and Jolly LLB 2 as some trade site has given a figure of 89 cr and 84 cr for them?

A. Budget is an irrelevant figure alongwith ancillary revenues like TV, Music etc. These numbers are thrown from PR blogs to confuse the audiences and lead them to their agenda. The only figure that matters for Box Office verdicts is All India distribution rights selling price. It is 42 crore for Kaabil in India and jolly LLb 2 price is somewhere around 50-55 crores. Both have done very well. Kaabil has made good profits for its distributors alone while Jolly LLb 2 is well on its way as well. It is a film like Raees that makes huge loss for its distributors as it was sold at a high price of 70 cr and could not back it up with great business.

Q. What according to you is bigger - Stardom or script sense?

A. Script sense leads to stardom so it is always the script sense first. Aamir Khan has all the records today not bcos he is a great star but because he has the best script sense among all the stars. A genuine superstar like Salman too needs a content driven film like Sultan to cross 300 cr. Kaabil with 40% screens managed to overtake Raees in daily collections as it was a film with better content. There are plenty of examples.
B. Obama

Q. Why is the Indian Box Office in such a mess with every website now coming with their own "estimates"?

A. The mess is largely due to the advent of social media and the lack of a single authentic tracking source like Rentrak. Because of its absence, every tom dick and harry has opened their own website and calls themselves as "trade analyst". A site like BOI.com which is completely anonymous and operates from US has blind followers just bcos it is functional since 10+ years. Then there are sites like Indicine which used to report Official figures and are now in the race of giving "estimates". There are plenty of examples but the point is NONE of them have any tracking sources at all india level neither do they stand by their own numbers as being accurate.  People online warm up to any blog over a period of time and start following it. The best option is to go by all the big trade sites like Bwhungama or koimoi or a komal nahta who are known people and have office address/journalists/correspondents who have a face and a responsibility and arrive at a logical conclusion for every movie.

HERE'S HOW WE ARE GOING WRONG IN BOX OFFICE BATTLES

The debate over Box office is never ending in Bollywood with no proper structure and a single authentic source to track the earnings of a movie. At best, one can follow many of the trade sites and arrive at a logical conclusion. But even with the analysis that we get from media and trade, there are so many loopholes at a logical level. Here's How:

Typically, most trade sites calculate earnings of a movie by adding Theatrical revenue and then the ancillary revenues like Satellite rights/DVD/Music. But this is where they go terribly wrong. They forget that ancillary revenues go to producers while the theatrical revenue goes to distributors. The theatrical revenue is 50-55% of nett collection of movies which is the distributor share . Producers recover their investment by selling the theatrical rights of the film to distributors and selling satellite rights and music rights to TV channels and Audio companies. So how can satellite rights/music/dvd be added to theatrical distributor share?

So here are the figures that are important for deciding a movie verdict:

1) Cost of buying  theatrical rights by distributors All India

2) Theatrical share to distributors

If 2>1 , the movie is in profit and a success

THE COMEDY OF RAEES BOX OFFICE

The Box office collections of Raees have turned out to be an unintentional comedy of sorts. What started as a good day 1 for Raees over Kaabil lost its steam fast enough during the extended weekend. From monday onwards, in a bid to outdo Kaabil, Red chilles started fudging its numbers and released them just after Kaabil released their's and added a crore to it. This went on till the second Friday. After the pattern became obvious to one and everyone, Raees has not release its official figure on saturday and sunday and directly gave its second weekend figures on monday. And the figures are a JOKE OF THE CENTURY!

According to Raees producers, Raees did 6.6 cr on friday, a working day while it did a mere 4 cr on saturday  which is a weekend day and merely 4.75 cr on sunday. This kind of awkward trend puts Raees in a spot of bother. The friday collection and the downward trend on sat and sunday makes it clear that friday numbers were simply fudged to outdo Kaabil. While the trend of Kaabil in second weekend has been good with no irregularities observed, the trending for Raees has exposed the lies manufactured by Raees producers. Here is the day wise breakup of Raees :

DAY-WISE BREAKUP FOR INDIA

Day 1 (Wed)  – 20.42 Cr.
Day 2 (Thu)  – 26.30 Cr.
Day 3 (Fri)  – 13.11 Cr.
Day 4 (Sat)  – 15.61 Cr.
Day 5 (Sun)  – 17.8 Cr.
Day 6 (Mon)  – 8.25 Cr.
Day 7 (Tue)  – 7.52 Cr.
Day 8 (Wed) – 7.10 Cr.
Day 9 (Thu) – 6.25 Cr.
Day 10 (Fri) – 6.60 Cr.
Day 11 (Sat) – 4 Cr.
Day 12 (Sun) – 4.75 Cr.
Day 13 (Mon) – 1.5 Cr.

TOTAL (NETT) – 139.21 Cr.

HOW KAABIL BEAT RAEES HOLLOW IN THIS CLASH

The much talked about clash of January 2017 between Kaabil and Raees has been one of the most interesting battle of ego crushing. The first day victory went to Raees thanks to it getting more screens due its Baahubali 2 deal. There was a 10 cr difference between the two films with Raees leading by a good margin. But the difference dwindled right from the second day onwards as Word of mouth of both films kicked in with Kaabil getting frighteningly close to Raees in a matter of days. And then the unthinkable happened.

The weekdays began where kaabils WOM started to stamp its ground all over and fearing a possible loss of  the "perception battle" , red chilles team started fudging its numbers just in a bid to outdo the Kaabil numbers. This is evident because it was always the kaabil numbers that came first and then red chilles came up with a crore higher. By the end of the first week, the difference in day to day collections closed in to a staggeringly low figure which was just under 1 crore.  Meanwhile, exhibitors decided to give Kaabil extra screens as it was performing better than Raees and hence Kaabil showed an upsurge in collections from 5.25 cr thursday to 6.40 cr on Friday . But the Raees makers were caught cold when they gave out figures of 6.60 cr , in a desperate attempt to outdo kaabil second friday numbers , but fully exposing their blatant lies and fraud. How can Raees have an upsurge on sec ond friday when kaabil was given more shows and raees shows were reduced?

With kaabil now crossing the 100 cr club in a matter of 11 days, it has already won the perception battle because Raees is merely few 10s of crores ahead. One wonders what struck srk to go ahead and clash with Kaabil? Did he find hrithik a "soft target" just because he had a mohenjo daro behind him? Did srk forget he had a Fan behind him and a disaster director like rahul dholakia directing him? What was srk smoking? These are some questions only srk can answer, off screen of course.
