The Farcical Terms - Blockbusters and All Time Blockbusters

The simplest concept of a successful movie is when it generates ROI. Over the years, trade and fanatics developed farcical terms like "Blockbusters" and "All Time Blockbusters" to satisfy the ego of the stars that they got paid from and to get fanatics attention. Most frequently these terms are used very loosely by Salman fans of late. Lets have a look at the so-called "Blockbusters" and "All time Blockbusters" Lets have a look at the biggest grossers of 2011: Bodyguard - 148 cr, Ready - 120 cr, ra.one - 118 cr, don2 - 107 cr, singham - 100 c,r znmd - 90 cr. Ready is claimed to be a blockbuster by salman fans. But how can that be a blockbuster where there are atleast half a dozen films with the same lifetime range? Bodyguard is said to be a blockbuster which released an year after dabang that did 140 cr. So if Dabang was a BB, how come BG with just 8 cr more in an year be a BB as well? Q. I read at a website that Tubelight made good profits for its producers so the distributors losses that the film suffered do not matter. How true is this analysis? A. Every movie especially the big ones are either sold to individual distributors or corporate where the producer makes heavy profit. So giving a verdict based on producer profit is stupidity of the highest order. Then films like Kites and Ra.one should get blockbuster verdicts as they made 60-100 cr profit for their producers which is almost 100% profit compared to their budget. The verdicts of Box office is decided by the share that the distributors get from the theatrical run of a film which is typically 50% of the nett collections. Tubelight has netted around 118 cr which gives a DS of around 60 cr against selling price of 132 crores. Its losses are in the range of  72 crores and this is just the losses for Indian distributors.
