KAABIL GETS FRIGHTENINGLY CLOSE TO RAEES ON DAY 4

Kaabil is now shying with the Raees figures on a dialy basis with the gap now frighteningly close to just above 2 crores. It must be noted that Raees released on 60% screens while Kaabil got just 40%. The first day started with a near 10 cr gap but has been declining sharply. The word of mouth has clearly gone in favour of Kaabil and it will be interesting to see if Kaabil can eventually outdo Raees in the lifetime.

KAABIL grabs Raees by its collar on Day 3

Kaabil has been closing in on its gap with Raees which released on 60% screens ever since the release. The first day started with a near 10 cr gap and its the third day today and kaabil has already grabbed raees's throat and has send shivers down the spine of the Raees team. The saturday and sunday numbers are expected to be quite similar for both with kaabil having a clear chance to outdo Raees on either saturday or sunday. Here is the trend

Q. There are reports from trade site that Kaabil vs Raees clash is totally one sided because the leads are blind?Also are content films always at a disadvantage when it comes to opening?
A. These kind of reports are fabricated from rival PR camps to create doubts in audiences. If you analyse the history, the gangster genre is the one which has done the worse in the last few years be is OUTIMD or Shootout At wadala as they have nothing for the family audiences and are mostly failed formula films. Regarding second part of the question, such trade sites are a joke that on one side call the "content" films and on other side say they are weaker compared to a failed formula film. 2016 tells us that it was only the content films that have done well whether it was the biggies like Sultan and Dangal or the smaller ones like Pink and Neerja.

Q. Raees trailers and song got twice the number of views on youtube compared to Kaabil , does that mean Raees buzz is way ahead of kaabil?
A. If  Raees had a buzz , it would not have struggled to get 50% screens only from Kaabil. The fact is exhibitors and distributors know the worth of the salt a movie has. They know the director of Raees is Rahul Dholakia who is a disaster filmmaker and it stars shahrukh khan who himself is going through an all time career low.

Indore Barometer - A shift In Yearly Awards system

The award system in Indian film industry has become a joke with new categories announced every year as if the already existing system was not bad enough. Favouring big production houses and actors who paid the jury was a norm all these years anyway. A possible solution to this is to narrow down the number of categories itself. There should be only one "Best Actor (male/female)" category. All the other ones like "Supporting/ Comic/Villian" should be scrapped. On one hand you give these supporting actor awards and at the same instant make them realise that their roles/impact was inferior. It serves no purpose. Similarly , there should be only one category for "Best film". No point in having "best director/best story/best screenplay" just to please others in the list. In the technical category, there needs to be equal cutting down in categories. Two basic ingredients in Indian films are Action and Music. Rest need to be scrapped. So no Editing/sound design/background music and other such circus. So here is a narrowed down to the point awards by indore barometer for 2016:
